England’s World Cup preparations took a turn last week after the doors of the van transporting their training equipment were opened to find that it had all been stolen. The van was headed to Kansas City from Florida to begin England’s World Cup campaign. 

The missing items included training equipment, footballs, and some boots. The full list of stolen items can be found below:

• Five pairs of shoes valued at $1,139.50 in total
• A signed red jersey valued at $5,000
• Two white signed jerseys valued at $5,000 each
• A World Cup ball valued at $214.50
• A pair of goalkeeper gloves valued at $160.87
• Four navy shirts (no value given)
• Four pairs of navy shorts (no value given)
• Four light blue long sleeve shirts (no value given)
• Four light blue short sleeve shirts (no value given)
• Two stuffed lions (no value given)
• Multifunctional power strips valued at $40
• A JBL speaker valued at $149.95
• A Lego set of a Nike Air shoe valued at $99.99

After investigation, the Kansas City Police Department have confirmed that most of the equipment has been recovered. Two suspects, Mustafa Salik and Erfan Kamal, have been taken into custody and each face one count of receiving stolen property.

The incident occurred before England’s first training session at Swope Soccer Village, raising concerns whether the disruption would affect Tuchel’s squad ahead of their first game. However, the FA assured fans that training was carried out as normal and the equipment had been recovered.

While the theft made headlines across the football world because of its unusual natured, it was ultimately a minor setback in England’s preparations for their first game against Croatia.
